• Russia Launched Sputnik 2 on this day in 1957.
• At that time this was the first ever launch with live animal – a siberian husky dog, Laika was sent to space
• As there was no recovery planned Laika died in the orbit.
• Later, Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin from Russia became the first human to travel into space on 12 Apr 1961
