To provide an opportunity for Students, Teachers, Researchers and Scholars and the general public to exhibit their knowledge, creativity, analytical and presentation and communication skills as well as to build a Young Communicators Force (YCF) in the State, the Karnataka Science and Technology Academy organizes a contest, “Ten Minutes to Fame: Video Lecture Competition‟.
Process
- Interested individuals should submit a visual abstract of 2 minutes (video clipping), briefing the concept in prescribed format available in the website within one month of announcement of the contest on KSTA website
- All the entries will be scrutinised by an expert committee and approvals communicated for participation in the contest within a month of receipt of the abstracts; Further, only approved contestants are allowed to submit videos
- The presentation on the selected topics must be videographed and videos submitted to the Academy, within two months of communication of the approval, that will also be placed on the KSTA website

- The medium of the lecture is Kannada or English and may include supportive footage shot at the site, animations, computer images, drawings, data, interviews and so on
- Videos must be previously unpublished (including the internet), original and must be the sole property of the entrant, not previously submitted to any other contest
- Entries must be suitable for display to a general audience with respect to language, visual content, presentation, themes discussed, and related issues
- The video should be maximum of 10 minutes
- Participants can submit entries in MP4, MOV, MPEG, FLV, and AVI formats with resolution above 1920×1080
Eligibility & Topics
- The contest is open to individuals up to the age of 35 residing in any part of the State of Karnataka
- Students, Teachers, Researchers and Scholars as the general public
- Topics : Health & Hygiene, Food Security, Aquatic World, Astronomy, Energy
Evaluation & Awards
- Entries will be evaluated by a panel of distinguished evaluators, with criteria pertaining to creativity & originality; structure of the lecture; technical content; visual aids and physical examples; communication skills; and presentation
- One of the criteria for judging is „Fluency in speaking and Clarity in reading‟
- Results of the Awards, viz., Golden Award: Rs 25,000/-; Silver Award: Rs 15,000/-; Special Jury Award: Rs 10,000/-, will be announced at the KSTA website, within two months of the last date of receipt of the videos
- Further, select performers in order of ranking up to a number of 30, will be provided an exposure to communication skills by a group of experts in a three day workshop at the Academy and also further mentoring
- KSTA shall have the copyright of the submitted videos and Prize-winning videos will be publicized through the website as well as other media
- KSTA reserves the right to accept or reject any videos for the competition and the decision shall be final and binding in this respect
- KSTA may invite the selected 10-15 successful contestants for further training in Science (Visual) communication. The budget for 3 days workshop is Rs 2 lakh for 3 days (including accommodation, travel and boarding charges)
Rules and Regulations
- KSTA reserves the right to cancel the contest or modify these rules at its discretion. Decisions of KSTA are final and binding
- Entry per Entrant is limited to One (1). Subsequent entries will be disqualified
- The content of the video should be original and belongs to the entrant
- Obtain permission to use any location that is shown in the video
- Entries must not be the re-edited versions of other works
- Entries are subject to the use of the published text, interviews, video record or third party works (such as props, music, photos, etc.), shall be authorized by the third-party with signed Consent for Authorized Use of Copyright and agree to the organizers and sublicense the use of the third person during the contest for the licensed content reproduce, edit, convert, distribute, publicly broadcast, public transport, public exhibition and other promotional activities of non-profit purpose use
- Entries involving intellectual property rights disputes shall be the responsibility of the entrants themselves and have nothing to do with the organizer
- The winning entries are subject to violations of intellectual property rights related laws and regulations, the certificates, trophies/medals and prizes must be returned
- By submitting an entry, the entrant represents that the video is an original work, and the entrant is the sole owner of all rights to the video. Entries must be unpublished works. No plagiarism, borrowing, copying, or counterfeiting is allowed
- While the copyright for the video and its content is retained by the entrant, entering the contest automatically provides KSTA the right to display the video online and/or in any public or private settings without restriction
- KSTA is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, incomplete, or postage-due entries. The entrant is responsible for obtaining legal permission to film on the location they have chosen. Contest void where prohibited or restricted by law
- The entrant also agrees to allow KSTA to use his or her name to post on the KSTA website, without compensation
- KSTA and the co-organizer have the right to use all the entries during the competition for promotional activities
- Each entrant retains his or her rights to their video but grants to KSTA a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to publicly display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of the video, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or later developed, for any purpose, including, but not limited to, education, advertising, and promotion. KSTA will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses
- Ensure that all submission information (e.g., names and signatures on the Official Photo/Video Release Form (see below); location of place that is the entry focus site) are accurate
- Verify that all team participants who are under 18 years of age have permission from parents or legal guardians to take part in the contest
