National Science Fair

Registration: during September or October every year

IRIS is conducting National Science Fair every year in association Intel Technology India Private Ltd (Intel), Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India and the Indo-US Science & Technology Forum (IUSSTF). The fair promotes and nurtures science and scientific research among young Indian innovators. It recognises and rewards outstanding projects. It provides a platform for winning students to represent India at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the world’s largest international pre-college science competition, held annually in the U.S.A.

Class 8 to 12 Students who have an idea that is original and innovative, are eligible to participate; individually or in a team of two. You can submit any number of projects in one or multiple subject categories.

Indian Science Congress


108th Indian Science Congress

3 to 7, 2022 (postponed due to Covid19 pandemic)

Focal theme: Science and Technology for “Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment”.

108th edition of the Indian Science Congress will be held at Symbiosis International University (Deemed) from January 3- 7, 2022. ISC is the largest national event with participation of more than 12,000 delegates, Nobel laureates and eminent scientist, faculty members and researchers from India and abroad. Invited talks and selected papers will be presented in symposia of different sections viz., Agriculture & Forestry, Animal, Veternary and Fishery Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth System Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Environmental Sciences, ICT, Material Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Medical Sciences, Biotechnology and Plant Sciences.

Children Science Congress

As a part of ISC, the Children Science Congress (Rashtriya Kishore Vaigyanik Sammelan) is organised simultaneously to provide an opportunity to children. This three day event comprise of invited talks by renowned scientists, science exhibition, science quizzes and other competitions.

Women Science Congress

Women Science Congress is being orgnised as a part of ISC to showcase the contribution of women in science and technology. Participation is by registration and there is no separate registration fee to attend.

ISCA Awards

ISCA has initiated many awards to honour and encourage scientists in India. There are more than 40 awards/Lectures/Fellowships.

Young Scientists Award

To encourage young scientists, ISCA has introduced number of awards in different disciplines. These awards carry a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 and a certificate of merit

Best Poster Award

ISCA has instituted two best poster awards in each section. These awards carry a cash prize of Rs. 5,000/- and a certificate of merit.

Google Science Fair

The Google Science Fair is an online science and engineering competition open to students ages 13 to 18 from around the globe. The main aim is to encourages the students to change the world through scientific inquiry and problem solving.

How to Enter the Competition: Through online submission of one entry either as an individual or as part of a group comprised of up to three persons. Entrants can select one of the following topics as a main topic and up to two sub topics for their Entry:

  • Flora & Fauna
  • Food Science
  • Earth & Environmental Sciences
  • Inventions & Innovation
  • Electricity & Electronics
  • Robotics
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Behavioral & Social Sciences
  • Energy & Space

Category Awards

Experimenting Category:

  • Scientific American Innovator Award
  • The National Geographic Explorer Award

Engineering Category:

  • The LEGO Education Builder Award
  • The Virgin Galactic Pioneer Award

Grand Prize

One Finalist from the Category Awards will be determined as the Grand Prize Winner. The Grand Prize Winner will not receive a Category Award in addition to the Grand Prize, but the Grand Prize Winner will remain eligible to win a Community Impact Award.

  • Community Impact Award
  • The Inspiring Educator Award
  • The Inspiring Educator Award recognizes an educator who has inspired students to participate in the Science Fair Competition.

GENIUS Olympiad

Due to Covid19, GENIUS Olympiad 2020 is cancelled

GENIUS Olympiad is an international high school project competition about environmental issues. It is founded and organized by the Terra Science and Education and hosted by the State University of New York at Oswego. GENIUS Olympiad will host projects in the following general disciplines with an environmental focus:

  • GENIUS Science
  • GENIUS Visual and Performance Arts
  • GENIUS Business
  • GENIUS Creative Writing
  • GENIUS Robotics

GENIUS Science

Students are expected to present a solution using scientific methods for a problem which fits in one of the following categories :

  • SCIENCE | Environmental Quality
  • SCIENCE | Ecology and Biodiversity
  • SCIENCE | Resource and Energy
  • SCIENCE | Human Ecology

Each GENIUS Science project can be prepared and presented by up to two students. Presentation of the models is highly encouraged, but not required. However, a research description paper (with data, graphics, photos, and drawings of the design concept) is required as part of the application and presentation. GENIUS Visual and Performance Arts (VPA) heightens public concern for environmental problems and solutions. VPA has following two sub-categories:

GENIUS Business

GENIUS Business raises awareness of environmental values in the business world, from bringing green products and services to market to developing a social responsibility plan for any business aiming to have a positive relationship to the society and the environment in which it operates. Each GENIUS Business project can be prepared and presented by up to two students.

GENIUS Creative Writing

GENIUS Creative Writing uses writing to raise awareness about global environmental problems and calls the public to action on solutions. Each GENIUS Creative Writing project can be prepared under the following categories and presented by only one student. CREATIVE WRITING | Short StoryCREATIVE WRITING | EssayCREATIVE WRITING | PoetryCreative writing projects are presented by reading to a live audience for 5 minutes, followed by a feedback session from judges.
