It is with great humility and a deep sense of responsibility that I assume the role of Chairman of the Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA). As an autonomous body under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka, KSTA plays a vital role in advancing the frontiers of science and technology while ensuring their relevance and reach to every corner of our state, especially rural communities.
The founding Chairman, Padma Vibhushan awardee Prof. U.R. Rao, former Chairman of ISRO and Secretary, Department of Space, Government of India, laid a visionary foundation for KSTA. His legacy was carried forward by Padma Shri awardee Dr. S.K. Shivakumar, Director of the U.R. Rao Satellite Centre, Bengaluru, who led the Academy from 2017 to 2019, followed by Padma Shri awardee Prof. S. Ayyappan, former Director General of ICAR, Government of India, who served from 2021 to 2023. I am honoured to continue the legacy of these esteemed predecessors and have now been entrusted with the responsibility of guiding KSTA in fulfilling its mission and objectives.
Moving forward, KSTA shall continue to pursue its mission with renewed vigour, nurturing scientific temper among all sections of society through meaningful science communication, especially in Kannada; strengthening public engagement; and deepening the understanding of science in everyday life. Our future programmes will place strong emphasis on improving scientific literacy across the state, fostering science learning, and building dynamic bridges between academia, industry, and the general public. These initiatives will aim to make scientific knowledge more accessible, applicable, and actionable.
We envision a series of hands-on workshops, conferences, encouragement for research activities, publications, national and international science events and outreach programmes. They will bring together students, teachers, researchers, and the public to engage with science in practical and participatory ways. By supporting innovation and entrepreneurship rooted in societal needs, especially among youth, KSTA aspires to create an environment where creative solutions are encouraged and rewarded. We will continue to recognise and honour contributions to science and technology through the KSTA Awards and aim to create work force and strengthen institutional capacities by serving as a vibrant resource centre for training in emerging scientific areas.
Furthermore, KSTA shall actively contribute as a policy advisory body, guiding the government in shaping forward-looking strategies in science, technology, and innovation. With a collaborative and inclusive outreach, we hope to bring the benefits of science to the doorstep of every citizen of Karnataka, while fostering a culture of inquiry, innovation, and integrity.
I sincerely look forward to working in close coordination with our scientific community, educators, policymakers, and the public to carry forward this important mission.
Prof. Rajasab A. H.
