2022 began with hope for a better world from the pandemic and appreciation for S&T tools across the globe. Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, celebrating 75th year of Indian Independence, also saw the celebration of science in terms of the country wide week long festival of ‘Vigyana Sarvatra Pujyate’. The event launched by the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, Vigyan Prasar, New Delhi, identified KSTA as the Nodal Agency for the programme in Karnataka, during 22-28 February, 2022.

The Event was inaugurated by Dr Ashwath Narayan, C.N., Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education, Electronics, IT BT, Science & Technology, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihoods, Govt. of Karnataka, at the KSTA, on 22nd February, 2022. Shri D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and Former Union Minister was the Special Guest and Shri S.R. Vishwanath, Hon’ble MLA, Yelahanka, presided over the function. Dr K. VijayRaghavan, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, New Delhi, was the Guest of Honour in a virtual mode, along with Dr E.V. Ramana Reddy, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Commerce & Industries, Electronics, IT BT, Science & Technology, Govt. of Karnataka, present on the occasion. The Hon’ble Minister presented the KSTA Lifetime Achievement Awards and Fellowships, 2021, to the recipients. The occasion saw week long expert talks, student competitions and exhibition by S&T Agencies. Dr G.U. Kulkarni, President, JNCASR, Bengaluru, delivered the Valedictory address on 28th February, 2022, and presented prizes to the winners of various competitions to students from different Colleges in Bengaluru.

Six publications, viz., Status Paper 2: ‘R&D Profile of Karnataka’; Status Paper 3: Mucormycosis: Lessons learnt & Recommendations’; Approach Paper 1: Horticulture in Karnataka – Way Forward’;  KSTA Year Book 2022; ‘Dumbigala Nartana’, Translation of the book, ‘The Dancing Bees’; and the KSTA Flyer were released on the occasion, enriching the programmes of the Academy.

The Executive Committee of the KSTA had met during the quarter. The guidance and inputs received from the Members are gratefully acknowledged.
